Computer Gaming

I have been playing computer games ever since I got my first Amiga when I was about 7. I used to love the games on it, and I still play some of them by using WinUae (Ultimate Amiga Emulator). However gaming has come on a lot since then - and I enjoy many of the modern titles as well.

I have attend LAN parties - mostly when I was in college and uni - (many people take their computers to a location, connect them up via a network and play games against and with each other). Some of my favourite single player games are:

  • Half-life
  • The Doom series (1 and 2)
  • Duke Nukem 3D
  • The Quake series
  • Descent 2
  • Unreal Tournament Series

However I have played and enjoyed many more than those listed above. I prefer First Person Shooters, however I also play strategy games such as:

  • Total Annihilation
  • Supreme Commander
  • Warcraft 3

I am looking forward to the release of the following titles:

  • Half-life 2: Episode 2 (especially portal)
  • STALKER
  • BioShock

Also one of my favourite games is Diablo II. I don't usually play online, however I found the single player to be very involving.

I also play games over the Internet whenever I can. Usually I play City of Heroes with my the rest of the clan to which I belong the Octavian Vanguard. I have to say prior to this game I have never played any Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMORGS) because they require such are large amount of time connected to the Internet. This is far too expensive. I have also played Planetside a damn fine game which is marred by the insane number of extremely annoying bugs which SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) refuse to achnowledge or fix!

I have to say I do not believe in cheating - never in multiplayer (I detest those who do and spoil it for everyone else) - and only in single player once you have completed the game without cheats! I can't blame anyone who completes Unreal II and then wants play it again using cheats just so they can use the Singularity Cannon to take out the standard enemies! Anyway if your interested I have compiled a short list of games I have downloaded cheats for. Unfortunately it is Microsoft Word format - I have checked it for viruses but suggest you do also as I cannot be held responsible for problems caused.

One thing that really annoys me is that many of the old DOS games no longer run on the latest versions of windows. Luckily this annoys many other people out there - the moment source code is released people create a new version of the game which runs under windows!. I know of conversions for the following games:

  • Descent
  • Descent 2
  • Duke Nukem 3D
  • Tyrian (Tyrian 2000)
  • Doom/Doom 2
  • Heretic/Hexen
  • Quake

and failing that I use dosbox which solves all my problems!
